City Woman Charged In Murder

An Amarillo woman was in Potter County Women's Correctional Facility last night in lieu of $5,000 bond after being charged with the shooting death of a 29-year-oid man

Zella Mae Jones, 34, of 1330 NW 9th, charged before Potter County Justice or the Peace Hos E. Byrd yesterday in connection with the death of Ronnie Joe Green. 29, of 811 N. Hughes.

Green died Tuesday Northwest Texas Hospital night about 80 minutes after being shot one time
the stomach.

Police said the shooting incident occurred about 9 p.m. Tuesday as Green stepped onto the front porch of a house at 1326 NW 9th.

Officers said Mrs. Jones was arrested at the scene of the shooting and a 38- caliber revolver was confiscated. Witnesses said Green was fired upon from inside the house. They said he stumbled into the yard and fell.

Police said the shooting stemmed from a weekend burglary of Mrs. Jones house

Officers said the woman had tried to file charges against Green, but later dropped them.

Records showed Green was convicted in 1971 of burglary and had been questioned recently about Amarillo break-ins.

Green, a native of Levelland, came to Amarillo about seven years ago from Vernon. He was a construction laborer.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. James Epps of Amarillo: his father, Willie Green of Vernon: two brothers, Willie Jr., Robbie and of Amarillo; seven sisters, Leola and Patricia, both of Vernon, and Patsy, Susie, Cleo, Helen and Mrs. Ola Mallard, all of Amarillo: half-sister, MrS Patsy Jones Amarillo, and grandparents. Mr. 0 and Mrs. Frank Swain of Vernon.
