Adam Alexander Adame
Alan Alexander Adame and Dianne Fuentes Aguilar were charged in the February 3, 2009 death of Aguilar's 3-year-old son, M.M., in Amarillo.
Alan Alexander Adame was the mother's boyfriend and lived with Aguilar and her children in an Amarillo home. Prosecutors alleged that he failed to obtain medical care for the severely abused and malnourished child, even though the boy's condition had deteriorated over an extended period. Witnesses described the child as emaciated, covered in bruises, and obviously in need of emergency treatment before his death.
At trial:
- A Potter County jury acquitted Adame of intentionally causing the child's serious bodily injuries, finding the evidence insufficient to prove he personally inflicted the abuse.
- However, the jury convicted him of injury to a child by omission for failing to seek medical care.
- Jurors sentenced him to 23 years in prison.
