Mark Christopher Ahrens

Victim Haley Sue Green (23)
Date of offense January 12, 2018

Christopher "Mark" Ahrens was convicted of murdering 22-year-old Haley Sue Green during a violent knife attack at a home in the 100 block of North Fairmont in Amarillo on January 12, 2018.

According to investigators, Ahrens arrived at the residence where Green was present and began stabbing her. Witnesses reported that he repeatedly attacked her with a knife, inflicting fatal wounds to her face and neck, as well as defensive injuries to her hands and arms, indicating she fought back during the assault. Green died at the scene. Police later recovered a bloody knife hidden beneath a backyard deck.

After fleeing the murder scene, Ahrens entered the yard of another nearby home in the 300 block of Bellview, prompting a burglary call. Officers located him there, but he resisted arrest, attempted to evade officers, and punched one officer before he was subdued and taken into custody. In addition to murder, he was initially charged with evading arrest and assault on a public servant.

In December 2018, a Potter County judge found Ahrens guilty of murder in the death of Haley Green and sentenced him to 45 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
