William Bond Clifford was a 33-year-old farmer in Canyon, Texas who shot and killed his wife and lover on April 8, 1966.
He shot his wife at the La Fran apartments then drove to where Stevens worked at the Hereford Feed Mill. He used a .22 caliber pistol loaded with hollow point bullets.

He first married Carol Shirley Sharp and had four sons by that marriage. He shot Carol Shirley and served some prison time, he later was married several times. source
