L.R. Wynne, 74, of Amarillo died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Mr. Wynne was born and raised in Shreveport, La. He graduated from Fair Park High School. He married Margie Shirley in 1946 in Shreveport. He moved to Amarillo in 1952 and went to work for the police department. He retired as chief of detectives in 1972.

He was a Mason, a member of Indian Guides, Civitan Club and a charter member of Texas Association of Polygraph Examiners. He was appointed to the State Board of Polygraph Examiners by Gov. John Connally.

He was instrumental in starting the Amarillo Police Benefit Fund for stranded motorists. He was active with the PTA and gave programs for school children. He was president of Amarillo council for mentally retarded. Mr. Wynne was a born-again Christian.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Shirley Nolte of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three sons, Jim Wynne, Kelley Wynne and Roger Wynne, all of Amarillo; a brother, Noble Wynne of Pasadena; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
