1 inmate dead, 1 wounded after 2nd stabbing in 3 days

One man is dead and another is Wounded after the second stabbing in three days at the William P. Clements Jr. Unit state prison, Warden Glenn Smith said.

Inmate Craig Seubert, 30, from Galveston County, died after being stabbed at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, Smith said.

Seubert was lying in his bed when another inmate stabbed him in the ear with a sharpened piece of metal rod, Smith said.

Smith said Seubert received medical attention and appeared to be healthy immediately following the incident. Three hours later, Seubert dropped into a comatose state and was transported to North- west Texas Hospital, Warden Brian Rodeen said. Seubert was disconnected from life support sys-tems and was dead at 2:35 p.m.
Tuesday, Rodeen said.

A doctor reported to Smith that the stabbing had cut an artery, which bled following the incident, he said.

The case has been referred to the prison's Internal Affairs Department, and Smith said the department has identified a suspect.

A second stabbing occurred in the prison's recreation yard Tuesday at 7:50 p.m., Smith said. The inmate was struck by a sharpened ¼-inch metal rod once in each arm and twice in the neck, Smith said.

The man's name has not been released pending the notification of next of kin, Smith said.

The prison IAD is also investigating the second stabbing.
