Two Arrested After Traffic Stop – Meth, Stolen Gun, Counterfeit Bills Found
Amarillo police arrested two people after an early Tuesday morning traffic stop in which officers discovered methamphetamine, a stolen pistol, counterfeit bills, and identifying information that did not belong to either suspect.[1]
The Stop
According to police, an officer stopped a 2000 Toyota Avalon for a traffic violation in the 400 block of North Prospect around 5 a.m. on Tuesday.
Police said both the driver, 19-year-old Tristin Riojas, and the passenger, 37-year-old Diana Hugg, got out of the car when they were stopped. Both of them walked away from the car and went toward a house. The officer was able to detain both subjects.
Arrests and Charges
Tristin Riojas was found to have a probation violation warrant for Burglary of a Habitation out of Randall County, so he was arrested.
When officers searched the vehicle, they found a pistol, a small amount of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. APD said the pistol that was found had been stolen in a residential burglary in the 2800 block of South Hayden Street that was reported on February 28.
Police said Hugg was found to be in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine, two counterfeit twenty-dollar bills, and identifying information that did not belong to her or Riojas. She was arrested as well.
Charges Filed
Riojas was charged with:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felo
- Theft of a Firearm
- Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- No Driver's License
- Fail to Signal no less than 100 feet before a turn
- Probation vioation warrant
Hugg was charged with:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information
- Forgery of a Financial Instrument
Both Hugg and Riojas were booked into the Potter County Jail.
