Juan Flores Garcia’s 2018 Amarillo Murder Remains Unsolved
Juan Flores Garcia Jr., 59, was found fatally shot in north Amarillo during the early morning of August 26, 2018. Publicly available reports do not indicate that anyone has been arrested or charged with his murder.
Amarillo police responded to a shooting in the 700 block of North Van Buren Street shortly after midnight. Officers found Garcia suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Justice of the Peace Thomas Jones ordered an autopsy in Lubbock.[1]
Garcia’s death was one of several homicides recorded in north Amarillo that year. His sister, Lupe Garcia, said the killing forced her family to experience the same grief endured by other families who had lost loved ones to violence.[2]
Shortly before his death, Garcia had begun attending Power Church. Pastor Manny De Los Santos remembered him as a valued member of the congregation and urged churches, residents and community leaders to unite against violence and affirm the value of every life.
No suspected motive or description of Garcia’s killer was publicly released. Anyone with information may contact the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit at 806-378-9468 or provide an anonymous tip to Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400.
