April 20, 2010 Man arrested, charged with stabbing death on 10th Avenue
Police found 43-year-old Robert Rodriguez in an alley at 1412 W. 10th Ave. on April 20, 2010. The victim had several stab wounds to his chest. He was taken to Northwest Hospital for treatment, but died an hour and a half later.[1]
An autopsy showed that one of the stab An autopsy later showed that at least one of the stab wounds that Rodriguez suffered had pierced his heart, causing his death.
Police investigated the murder and identified 33-year-old Nyenla Terrell as a suspect.
Terrell went to the hospital with a stab wound to his leg that police think was self-inflicted. He was treated and released on April 22. Police arrested him following his release.
August 2, 2011 Terrell pleads guilty to murder of Robert Rodriguez
Terrell was indicted for murder in October 2010 and stated an intent to take the charge to a jury.[2]
The trial of Nyenla Terrell for the stabbing death of Robert Rodriguez was scheduled for August 2, 2011.
However, on the morning of the trial, Terrell said he would agree to a plea bargain instead.
He was sentenced to 40 years in state prison in exchange for a guilty plea and waiving his right to appeal.
His last-minute decision surprised his attorney, Mike Warner.
