Arson at Southwest Eighth Avenue Apartment – Rodney Darnell Brooks Arrested

Amarillo police arrested a man on arson charges on Sunday after a structure fire in the 2200 block of Southwest Eighth Avenue.[1]
Incident
The fire in a single-story apartment building was reported at 8:32 p.m. Sunday. No one was injured, and there was no major damage, according to the fire marshal's office.
The tenant of the apartment where the fire started was on scene when police officers arrived. The man was seen pouring a flammable liquid on some papers and setting them on fire inside his apartment, said Amarillo Police Cpl. Jerry Neufeld.
Arrest and Charges
Rodney Darnell Brooks, 56, was booked into Potter County Jail on charges of arson with intent to damage a habitation, a first-degree felony.
A first-degree felony is punishable by 5 to 99 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
Case Summary
The suspect was observed by officers igniting papers with a flammable liquid inside his apartment. The fire was contained with no injuries reported and no major damage to the building.
