JaVaurian Berrell Penns — 2023

JarVaurian Berrell Penns, 21, was killed and two teenage girls were wounded in an Amarillo shooting on March 26, 2023. His name was rendered several different ways in early reports, but later coverage identified him as JarVaurian Penns.^[1]

At approximately 4:45 a.m., the three victims were taken to a hospital in a private vehicle. Penns died from his injuries, while the 17- and 18-year-old girls were expected to survive.^[2]

Police determined that the shooting occurred at Amarillo Boulevard West and North McMasters Street. The mother of one wounded girl said Penns saved her daughter’s life during the attack.

Investigators released surveillance images of a suspected vehicle and a white truck whose occupants may have witnessed the shooting. Amarillo Crime Stoppers repeatedly increased its reward, eventually offering at least $6,500 for information. No arrest has been publicly announced.
