Two Arrested After Teen Fatally Shot Outside Amarillo Bar

Amarillo police arrested two men following the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old outside Liquids Bar at 1013 S.W. 10th Ave.

Police said a fight involving several people broke out in the bar’s parking lot at about 2 a.m. During the confrontation, 22-year-old Patrick Baca allegedly shot Guadalupe Olivarez Jr. once in the upper body.

Bystanders placed Olivarez in a vehicle and rushed him to Northwest Texas Hospital, where an emergency room physician pronounced him dead.^[1]

Investigators found numerous shell casings from two different-caliber weapons scattered throughout the parking lot. Gunfire also shattered the windows of several nearby vehicles.

Witnesses identified Patrick Baca as the alleged gunman, police said. Officers located him at an East Amarillo residence and took him to the Potter-Randall Special Crimes Unit for questioning. He was subsequently charged with murder and booked into the Potter County Detention Center.

Police also arrested 19-year-old Mark Baca and charged him with deadly conduct for allegedly firing a handgun during the disturbance.

A justice of the peace ordered an autopsy on Olivarez’s body. His death was the 12th homicide recorded in the Amarillo area that year, including two fatal officer-involved shootings, and the third homicide outside an Amarillo bar. It was also the city’s second fatal bar shooting in less than a month.

Saturday's shooting is the second fatal shooting at a Amarillo bar in less than a month.

On Aug. 9, investigators allege Jose Alberto Sanudo-Perez, 33, fatally shot Jeremy Lawrence Haywood, 26, outside the Los Dos Compadres bar, at 5410 E. Amarillo Blvd. Authorities believe Sanudo-Perez fled to Mexico shortly after the shooting. Investigators have not released a motive for the shooting.

In late March, police allege Jeremy David Barrington struck David Glen Cates, 36, with his hand, causing him to fall and strike his head on the pavement outside Boscos Lounge, 2307 S.W. Sixth Ave. Cates was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital, where he remained unconscious for nearly two weeks before he died.

Cates was arrested in June and charged with criminally negligent homicide.
