Murder of Alejandro Holguin Chavez
Alejandro Holguin Chavez, 32, was shot and killed overnight at the Country Inn & Suites in the 2000 block of Soncy Road in Amarillo, Texas, on Saturday, June 6, 2020. Two people were initially detained at the scene; two days later, police identified Christopher Michael Yager, 47, as the suspect and announced he had been arrested and booked on murder charges.
The shooting
At approximately 3:50 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2020, Amarillo police officers responded to a shooting at the Country Inn & Suites in the 2000 block of Soncy Road. Officers found Chavez, 32, shot once in the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation
The Amarillo Police Department's Homicide Unit responded to investigate. At the time of the initial report, two people were detained in connection with the incident, though their identities and roles were not immediately released.
Identification and arrest
