In November 2017, the family of Juan Gutierrez filed a missing person's report with Amarillo police.

Police searched a home in the 900 block of North Arthur Street and found the body of Juan Gutierrez dead from apparent injuries from an assault. It was later shown that Juan's cause of death was a gunshot wound.[1]

In May 2018, a Potter County grand jury indicted 32-year-old Miguel Andrews Gutierrez for murder.

In August 2019, Gutierrez pled guilty to murder and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
