Michael Todd Williams Death Investigation

Michael Todd Williams, 47, died on October 26, 2014, following an assault earlier that month in Amarillo, Texas.

Incident

On October 16, 2014, at approximately 8:34 p.m., Amarillo police responded to an assault call at 3001 E. Amarillo Boulevard. Officers found Williams unresponsive in a parking lot. Williams had been knocked unconscious by a blow to the face. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Williams was treated for a brain injury and released from the hospital Oct. 21 but returned on October 25. He died the following morning. Justice of the Peace Thomas Jones ordered an autopsy to be performed in Lubbock, prompting the Special Crimes Unit to begin its investigation.

An autopsy showed he had succumbed to pneumonia caused by blunt force trauma to his upper body

Criminal History

Williams had a prior conviction for manslaughter in the February 1989 beating death of 24-year-old Bounpasom Louanglath of Amarillo. Louanglath was found dead on a couch at 1010 N. Marrs Street. The incident, which authorities said stemmed from a dispute at a party, marked Amarillo’s first homicide of that year. Williams was originally charged with murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

APD Investigation & Suspect

The Amarillo Police Department withheld details of the case until October 30, 2014, to avoid jeopardizing the investigation.

On November 1, 2011 Sgt. Jason Riddlespurger identified Anthony Dewayne Campbell, 37, as a suspect in the assault that led to the death of Michael Todd Williams, 47.

Investigators working the case have issued a warrant for Campbell's arrest on charges of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury but have been unable to find him, Riddlespurger said. Campbell is also wanted on a charge of burglary of a motor vehicle out of Potter County
