Death of Infant – Jose Tedoro Flores Case

Jose Tedoro Flores, 25, of Amarillo, was charged with murder in the death of his infant son, who died on February 11, 2015, at an Amarillo hospital. The child was only months old and had been born prematurely.[1]

Incident

At 10:20 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015, police were dispatched to an unidentified south Amarillo home on an incident involving a child who was suffering from a medical problem, according to Potter-Randall Special Crimes Unit Lt. Erick Bohannon. The infant was transported to a local hospital by ambulance but died on Wednesday, February 11.

Investigators from the Special Crimes Unit later arrested Flores on a charge of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury and booked him into Randall County Jail. Investigators classified the death as a homicide.

Charges

On Thursday, February 12, Randall County prosecutors filed a murder charge against Flores after he admitted to conduct that injured the child, according to Randall County Criminal District Attorney James Farren.

"We believe there is evidence to support physical abuse of this child at the hands of the defendant, and that the child died as a result of that," Farren said. "The complaint includes a probable cause paragraph... it states that he has admitted that he committed the physical acts that resulted in the child's death."

Flores

Farren said he had not received autopsy results on the boy but said investigators believed he suffered a brain injury. The state was awaiting autopsy results and information from other tests that would come from further medical examinations.

Farren said the case technically qualified as a capital murder case because the boy was younger than 10, but prosecutors had not yet determined whether they would file a capital murder charge against Flores.

Bond

Flores remained at the Randall County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

Funeral Arrangements

The boy's funeral services were pending with Cox Funeral Home.
