Anson McFaul – Convicted Murderer Arrested in Vehicle
Anson McFaul, 34, of Amarillo, was arrested on Sunday, January 24, 2016, after a woman discovered him sleeping in her car with a handgun. McFaul had previously been convicted of murder in 2000 in connection with the fatal stabbing of Jason G. Bouyea, 18, in 1999.[1]
1999 Murder Case
McFaul was arrested in 1999 in connection with the fatal stabbing of Jason G. Bouyea, 18, according to Globe-News files. Bouyea was stabbed on August 28, 1999, during an early morning fight.
Court records show McFaul had previously been sentenced to 13 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to murder in 2000.
2016 Arrest Incident
About 6 a.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2016, Amarillo police received a call from a woman's neighbor that a suspicious man was asleep in a vehicle in the 2100 block of Front Boulevard.
Officers arrived and awoke a man who was later identified as 34-year-old Anson McFaul, Amarillo Police Cpl. Jerry Neufeld said.
Police removed McFaul from the vehicle and handcuffed him. The owner of the vehicle told officers she had not given the man permission to be in her car. As officers were patting McFaul down, they discovered a 9 mm handgun in a jacket pocket, Neufeld said. According to an incident report, four 9 mm bullets were found as well.
Charges
McFaul was arrested and booked into Potter County Jail on charges of:
- Unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon
- Criminal trespassing
Background
The incident highlighted concerns about a convicted murderer being found armed in a stranger's vehicle in a residential neighborhood. The woman who owned the vehicle had not given McFaul permission to be in her car.
