Summary
Joseph Tyler Putch, 29, is a Potter County, Texas man twice indicted on child pornography possession charges and later arrested following an alleged domestic-violence kidnapping and police chase through Amarillo. In August 2020, a Potter County grand jury indicted Putch on ten counts of possession of child pornography, a third-degree felony, stemming from material he allegedly possessed at the end of 2019. Two years later, on August 25, 2022, a Potter County grand jury indicted him on five additional counts of possession of child pornography.[1]
On the morning of November 7, 2022, Amarillo police were called to the area of Bell Street and Gainsborough Road after witnesses reported a man forcing a screaming woman into a silver Hyundai. Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop; Putch refused to stop and led police on a chase through Amarillo that at one point passed the ABC 7 news studios. Police deployed spike strips and stopped the car at Amarillo Boulevard and Rusk Street. Putch fled on foot but was taken into custody just before 9:30 a.m. Officers recovered at least five guns, a sword, and a machete from his car. The woman was found safe, and police later characterized the incident as related to domestic violence. Putch was subsequently identified and charged with aggravated kidnapping with bodily injury, evading arrest/detention with a vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful carrying of a weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two outstanding municipal warrants.
