On July 16, 2016, a fight broke out in Elwood park at 1100 S. Jackson.[1]

Police were called to the park for the fight. When they arrived, witnesses told police that a man was in the street and then started fighting with people at the park. Police said that after the confrontation, there was a report of a man being assaulted by the same suspect.[2]

Carl Morris Edwards, 53, was severely injured during the fight and taken to a nearby hospital.

Edwards died August 4 from injuries sustained during the fight.[3]

Investigators obtained a warrant for Jon Aaron Kennedy, 31, and arrested him while he was walking in the 900 block of South Madison Street.

He was booked into Potter County Detention Center on a charge of murder. His bond was set at $50,000.

Kennedy was indicted in September 2016.

He pleaded guilty to murder on April 10, 2017 and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
