Matthew Wayne Austin was arrested by federal agents in April 2018 and sentenced to 20 years in federal prison in March 2019.
Austin spent time in prison for felony drug offenses and was once named Amarillo's Fugitive of the Week[1]. After his release from TDCJ, he spent three years working in the oil field and rose up to the rank of journeyman. A sudden diagnosis of a skeletal disease led to him becoming unable to work.
As a result, Austin turned to his old drug dealing connections and began selling again. He had only been back in the game for six months when federal agents raided his house.
His source of supply was Chad Edward Walker, who would later be implicated in the murder of Rene Soto in June 2018.
