An Amarillo couple was found shot to death inside their southwest Amarillo home on the evening of June 6, 2010.

Family members discovered 37-year-old Darren Moore and his wife, 40-year-old Kristi Moore, at about 8 p.m. after the couple failed to arrive for dinner. Both had suffered apparent gunshot wounds to the head.

The couple lived on Justin Street near Puckett Elementary School. Investigators found no evidence that anyone had forcibly entered the residence. Police said they were not searching for a suspect outside the home, but initially stopped short of officially classifying the deaths as a murder-suicide or identifying who may have fired the shots.[1]

Darren Moore worked at a local pharmacy and had previously served as a Randall County reserve sheriff’s deputy. The Randall County sheriff said Moore was dismissed from that position in late 2008 following a disciplinary matter.[2]

Kristi Moore worked as a counselor at Tascosa High School.

Neighbors described the deaths as shocking, saying the Moores had appeared to be a normal couple.
