Police Seek Three Suspects in Separate Amarillo Deaths

The Potter-Randall Special Crimes Unit released photographs of three men wanted in connection with three unrelated deaths in Amarillo.^[1]

The suspects were identified as Anthony Dewayne Campbell, 37, pictured left; Tyrone Dawayne Black, 22, pictured center; and Jose Miguel Hernandez, 21, pictured right. Police warned that all three should be considered dangerous.^[2]

Campbell was wanted for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury following the death of 47-year-old Michael Todd Williams.

Officers found Williams unconscious in a parking lot at 3001 E. Amarillo Boulevard on October 16, 2014. Investigators said he had been struck in the face and suffered a brain injury.

Williams was released from the hospital on October 21 but returned four days later. He died on October 26. Preliminary autopsy findings showed that he developed fatal pneumonia as a complication of blunt-force trauma to his upper body.

Police believed Campbell remained in Amarillo and said he frequently stayed at motels along Amarillo Boulevard. He was also wanted on a Potter County warrant for burglary of a motor vehicle.

Black was wanted for murder in the shooting death of 19-year-old Eric Ontario Smith Jr. outside Paradise Club, 714 N. Fillmore Street.

Witnesses said Black approached Smith in the club’s parking lot and shot him in the back of the head before fleeing. Smith was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle but died from his injuries.

Investigators said Black had ties to Amarillo, Lubbock, California and his hometown of Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

Hernandez was wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of 23-year-old Sal Ramirez at a home at 1621 N. Garfield Street.

Officers responded to the residence at approximately 9 p.m. and found Ramirez with a stab wound to his head. Witnesses identified Hernandez as the attacker and said he fled on foot.

Police said there was no apparent argument or provocation before the attack. Ramirez later died at a local hospital.

Investigators believed Hernandez remained in Amarillo and did not have access to a vehicle.

Authorities urged the public not to approach the suspects. Anyone with information was asked to contact the Amarillo Police Department or Amarillo Crime Stoppers.
