Deceased was in-custody at the Potter County Jail from an arrest on 3/12/2016 for a Probation Violation warrant, original charge of Indecency with a Child-Sexual Contact. On 3/22/2016, deceased complained of chest pains and shortness of breath. He was transported to Northwest Texas Hospital. Deceased had significant triple vessel coronary artery disease 90-95% stenosis on the LAD and 70-80% on the RCA.

Deceased also suffered chronic kidney disease stage IV, poorly controlled hypertension, Diabetes mellitus, COPD from smoking and a history of drug abuse. On 4/1/2016 a Cardiac By-pass times three was performed.

On 4/2/2016 the deceased was returned to surgery due to un-controlled metabolic bleeding. Post surgey to
ICU in Critical condition. Deceased conditioned worsened early in the morning on 4/3/2016. Dr. Bamgbelu pronounced Time of death at 0558 hours April 4, 2016. Justice of the Peace Gary Jackson ordered an autopsy to be performed by South Plains Medical Service, Lubbock Texas, the results are pending.

Potter inmate died of heart attack

A preliminary autopsy report for a man who died at a local hospital while in the custody of Potter County Sheriff's Office shows that he died from a heart attack.

Domingo Cortinez III, 45, died Sunday morning at Northwest Texas Hospital, authorities said.

Preliminary findings noted at the time of autopsy included an abnormally enlarged heart, severe coronary artery disease and renal disease. The report also listed a history of diabetes and obesity as other significant factors in Cortinez's death.

A sheriff's office news release states Cortinez was at Northwest undergoing treatment for pre-existing medical issues at the time of his death.

Aside from saying Cortinez had been under the care of Northwest since March 22, an official at the sheriff's office declined to comment Tuesday.

The Potter-Randall Special Crimes Unit investigated the death, as is standard procedure with in-custody deaths.

A phone call to Special Crimes Unit Coordinator Lt. Erick Bohannon was not immediately returned Tuesday.

Cortinez had been initially booked into jail March 12 for a probation violation warrant with an original charge of indecency with a child by sexual contact, jail records show.

His death marks the second death of a Potter County inmate in the last four weeks.

On March 11, Michael Williams, 60, died at Northwest Texas Hospital of an undisclosed terminal illness.
