Amarillo Police: 7-year-old shooting victim has died

On May 27, 2020, Amarillo Pollice Department reported that a 7-year-old boy died.

At about 7 p.m., officers were called to the 3900 block of Paradise Ave on a call of a sick person in the road. As they were en route to the scene, they received information that the person was possibly shot.

He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.[1]

Police said that the shooter was identified. However, the shooter is younger than 10 years old and cannot be charged with a crime.

After an investigation into the incident, police shared that they determined that a 9-year old child burglarized a home in the neighborhood, obtaining the gun. A short time after the burglary, the 9-year-old shot the 7-year-old victim.[2]

There is no evidence an adult made the firearm available to any of the children.
