Murder trial gets under way
The murder trial for Amador Lujan Lomeli began on the week of May 10, 2011 in 108th District Court.
Prosecutors presented several witnesses on Monday to present testimony as to the night Lomeli is accused of killing 54-year-old Henry H. Hernandez and wounding another man, Eulogio Garcia, on August 17, 2007.[1]
Investigators said Lomeli fired two to six shots into a crowd, killing Hernandez and wounding Garcia.
Lomeli eluded authorities for months. Tips led a SWAT team to a vacant home in Richland Acres where they found a 1998 Cadillac Seville that matched the description of the car Lomeli allegedly had been seen in when the shots were fired.
May 13, 2011 Plea Agreement after deadlocked jury
Amador Lujan Lomeli, Jr., pleaded guilty to the murder of Henry Hernandez on Friday, May 13, 2011.[2]
After a week-long trial in Potter County's 108th District Court where the defense called one witness and the jury deliberated for an hour and a half on Wednesday, before informing the court they were deadlocked at 7-5.
The jury returned on Thursday, May 12 to deliberate a verdict. The jury showed signs of deadlocking once again soon after starting deliberations. As this happened, Lujan accepted a plea agreement where he would be sentenced to 20 years in prison in exchange for his guilty plea and waiving his right to appeal.
The family of the victim, Hernandez, agreed to the plea bargain.
