Woman critically injured in St. Patrick’s Day shooting; suspect found dead
AMARILLO, Texas — A woman was critically injured in a shooting early on St. Patrick’s Day, and the man identified by police as the suspect was found dead a short time later.[1]
At about 5 a.m. on March 17, 2019, Amarillo police responded to the 800 block of South Florida Street, where they found a 32-year-old woman suffering from gunshot wounds to her upper body.
The woman was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators identified 36-year-old Keith Craig as the suspected shooter. Police said Craig had left the area before officers arrived.
More than an hour later, officers received a report of a man lying in a yard in the 2300 block of Southwest Fifth Avenue. When police arrived, they found Craig dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his upper body.
Police did not release additional information about what led to the shooting or the relationship between Craig and the injured woman.
