Officer-Involved Shooting – Mark Ramirez
Mark Ramirez, 31, of Amarillo, was shot and killed by Amarillo police officers on Sunday, December 20, 2015, after pointing a gun at officers during a call regarding a suicidal person.[1]
Incident
According to police, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of S. Travis St. on Sunday, December 20, just after 10:20 p.m., on a call of a suicidal person. Officers who were dispatched were told the suspect may be in possession of a gun.
When the officers arrived at the home, the suspect opened the door with a gun in his hand. Police said the suspect, 31-year-old Mark Ramirez, then moved the gun in the direction of the officers and he was shot by police.
Aftermath
APD said the officers administered first aid and called an ambulance. Ramirez was taken to the hospital where he died.
An autopsy was performed on Ramirez's body in Lubbock on Tuesday morning.
Investigation
There was no information initially as to how many shots were fired or if both officers fired shots. Both officers were placed on administrative leave while APD Special Crimes continued to investigate the shooting.

Officers Involved
The two Amarillo police officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
The department's homicide unit investigated and then turned the case over to the district attorney's office for review.
